Why You Stop Losing Weight
You may have worked out a healthy diet plan and are sticking to it, so far come across that after some weeks, you stop losing weight. Dieting can be a frustrating experience. Many people are ready to throw in the towel when this happens and just say, ‘To heck with this!’ It is common to stop losing weight, or even occasionally gain a pound or two, despite your exact devotion to your diet and exercise program. Do not make this mistake. There are some reasons why this might happen. For example, if you are on a high protein diet, you will build muscle mass. In spite of some of the conventional wisdom and popular opinion to the contrary, it is a fact that muscle weighs more than fat. Boxers do this all the time, to ‘make weight’ for a bout, as do a great several other athletes, such as football players.
You will absolutely be building muscle in your thighs and calves if you engage in vigorous and long bicycling trips. Let’s say you go in for a daily hour of swimming, spending a lot of time on the breaststroke. So when you get on the scale one week, only to see you seem to stop losing weight, remember that the numbers on the scale don’t tell the whole story. The same is true for certain forms of exercise. Each person reaches metabolic ‘plateaus’. You’re building muscle. If you’re counting your calories and following your exercise program, don’t worry about it. You are losing fat and working towards a truly fit you! Again, you think, “How can I stop losing weight when I’m doing everything right?” When you’re on a diet and exercise program, certain beneficial metabolic changes are happening as a result.
Don’t worry, just keep on keepin’ on! You may stop losing weight for a period, until your body has adjusted to your new metabolic rate. On average, women gain and lose about eight pounds a month. Generally the water weight increase begins to creep on in serious throughout the third week of their cycle and continuing through to the end of their period. Women who are dieting are particularly susceptible to water weight gains and losses each and each month, because of their menstrual cycle changes. So, do not fret! It is all a usual result of being a woman. As a result, make sure your calendar, if you stop losing weight, or even put on a couple of pounds. At the end of your period, you will be rewarded with an unforeseen and substantial weight loss.
Here is one way to ease your fears if you have been on your diet for a while and abruptly appear to stop losing weight. Get out the tape measure and measure some of those dangerous and tell-tale parts. Check your waistline and hips. This assumes you took these measurements prior to starting your diet. If not, try on a piece of clothing that was a bit snug before you started dieting. This should be all the comfort you require to lift your spirits when you stop losing weight!
